Food Pantry:

The food pantry at Glad Tidings is known as the Dunn Community Food Pantry. We have called it this name because there are other churches in the area and volunteers from other churches and businesses that help to support and run the pantry on a daily basis.

The food pantry is open every other Friday of the month though not necessarily the second and fourth. Please call to see which Friday during the month we are open, then it runs every other week from there. The pantry has been in operation for two full years as of February and since that time has distributed over 60 tons of food to our area residents.

We serve Harnett County residents only unless your county resides next to Dunn and your city is a closer commute such as Plain View. We do require proof of residence and verification of household members such as Driver's License, Social Security Card, Medicaid Card, or Birth Certificate. It takes 50 volunteers to run the pantry effectively both during the week when we are picking up and putting away food to the days we are actually serving the food to the public. Please call if you wish to volunteer time, it is always welcome.

Backpack Ministry

The Back Pack Ministry is going into its third year as well. This Ministry identifies children in school who go home on the weekend to a home with little or no food. We partner with guidance counselors, teachers and social workers to identify these children, then we pack out backpacks with food in them each week on Wednesday night and distribute them on Fridays to the schools at a coast of approximately $5.00 per child per week. We currently serve Harnett Primary, Wayne Avenue Elementary, and Dunn Middle Schools and serve 140 children between the three schools. This is another ministry that is supported by our church and community through donations and volunteers, both of which are always welcome.
